January 4th, 2010 by Martin

After quite long time I manage to save some time for my WordPress. There was a big gab between versions and there were some new releases of WP. So to be short I updated two public plugins:

There are still two public plugins to update and also I am thinking about releasing some private plugins for free.

Happy using :)

Never ending problems with Google XML Sitemap plugin

July 30th, 2009 by Martin

From time to time I have some problems with my WordPress installation. It is usually related to upgrade to a new version and plugins of course. It is expect able for plugins to stop working with new version of host code. Most of plugins works well, but Google XML Sitemaps plugin causes a lot of pain to me. I believe it is every upgrade. I am feeling frustrated, because I can not publish or generally manage my posts without ending on blank page. I am not feeling about debugging these issues (sorry), I am feeling more like to reinvent the wheel and write my own plugin. I know that it is not an open source way (no I do not want to fork it), but I think I can make it more simple and better. ;)

Just finished work on a new WordPress website – Bydleni IQ

May 22nd, 2009 by Martin

Bydleni IQ is a fresh Internet magazine related to architecture, living and design. OpenLab Ltd. mission was to create website using existing graphical design by company’s designer. We decided to s WordPress as platform for this unique site, mainly because of speed of development as well as lowering project price for this starting project. Customization was quite a challenge because of complex design and structure. Besides visual customizations, we developed two custom plugins for adds and related content.

Building sophisticated web sites on top of WordPress platform

April 27th, 2009 by Martin

I am working with web for a quite a few years. I am a bit scared to count it. ;) And from time to time I am still making webs :) Heh… Yep, I made dozens of webs during all these years, even that I am not classic web developer last a few years. These days I am working only for about 20%  of my time on web sites. Basics for me is LAMP stack and WordPress (and of course my love Erlang in latest months) for a lot of sites. It is really powerful web platform and it is also an open source project with big user community and tons of plugins and templates.  This is due to a simplicity approach to everything. Code is a poetry. ;)

Publishing your WordPress site to a production server

April 14th, 2009 by Martin

If you are developing web sites using WordPress platform, you are probably facing deployment issues.  By deployment I mean activity when you are moving WP site from development server to a production one. It is a simple process, but it requires some database modifications, because of different domain/paths between both servers.

Website updates

March 12th, 2009 by Martin

After very long time (yeah it is years now :)) I finally get some time or energy (maybe it is because of  end of winter) and decided to do something wing my web. I have a lot of work on other one websites, but time is ticking and my web is still well… like from previous century. From web technologies/standards point of view. So I started on redesign (but not visual) of my WordPress theme. It will look exactly same as current one, but it will load quickly and generally will be more cleaner (I hope! :). There will be also some new stuff, but I do not want to show all surprises now, because new theme is not ready as you can see.

Easy WordPress updating with WordPressUpdater

March 6th, 2009 by Martin

I recently got bored from updating my and friends WordPress sites. It is really boring to backup old installation, backup database (you can skip these steps, but if something goes wrong… ;)) and upload new installation. Be careful not to override custom files, etc. And finally run update script. :)

Well it is not that bad if you have only couple of WordPress installations, but I have a dozens… maybe two or three dozens. So I asked myself couple of times ago, how to automate it… It was not enough time.. or enough WordPress installations. ;) But time has come and it is close to be ready in beta version.

WordPress plugin updates

February 20th, 2009 by Martin

After quite a long period I finally found some spare time for work on my WordPress plugins. I did some small fixes and moved Custom Logo and Plugin List into WordPress Plugin Directory. It is only a beginning. I am working on rest of my plugins and also one brand new plugin. As usually this new plugin idea came from everyday practise ;).

Happy WordPressing :)
