An ultimate Erlang IDE?

October 2nd, 2008 by Martin

I am fan of Erlang and have been playing with him for couple of years. I tested all editors/IDEs from ErlIDE, Emacs (mode), Vim (mode) or ErlyBird. I used some of them for quite long time. But I was still unhappy with experience. Well so back to headline, from my point of view, there is no ultimate Erlang IDE right now on the market. Yes ErlIDE looks promising, but Emacs with Erlang mode still rocks ;) .

Most wanted VS.NET feature

October 1st, 2008 by Martin

I am long term Microsoft Visual Studio user (not only of course ;) ). I used more than six versions in my professional history. This week I read an article about new Visual Studio 2010. It was full of new features like more support for testing, Agile and… Well I have to say that I am a bit sad about all that new features. Microsoft Visual Studio 2008 for .NET 2.0 Projects

December 6th, 2007 by Martin

I had very limited free time for playing with VS2008 in a previous versions, event if it became an officially available. Yes I read about new features on ScottGu’s and other blogs, but it has nothing to do with practice ;) . So I decided that I will trust in a new VS version and converted our current .NET 2.0 (Windows Forms) project to VS2008. It works like a charm (but be sure to backup all first, you never know!!!). Only one important think is (as posted by Daniel Larson today) to backup your solution before converting it. I have to say that Visual Studio 2008 seems to me running much faster an smoother. I am working with it for a two days and did not face any issue or trouble.

The NetBeans Profiler

September 2nd, 2006 by Martin

The NetBeans Profiler is based on a research project from Sun Laboratories. That research uncovered specific techniques that can be used to lower the overhead of profiling a Java application. One of those techniques is dynamic bytecode instrumentation, which is particularly useful for profiling large Java applications. Using dynamic bytecode instrumentation and additional algorithms, the NetBeans Profiler is able to obtain runtime information on applications that are too large or complex for other profilers. In addition, its dynamic capability means that profiling can be turned on and off for different parts of your application without requiring a restart. More info can be found here .
