Future of Flex

August 9th, 2012 by Martin

I originally started this blog post in February, but did not have enough time to finish it. Meanwhile things changed and much of my post went outdated.

My predictions about unsure future of Flex framework are today’s reality. Adobe donated Flex to Apache Foundation. It is just another step from Adobe to shrink their product base (and angry their users ;), good bye AIR for Linux :)). For our company it was a strong signal to move more towards open solutions (yes I know that Flex is now open sourced).

Currently there is a new release of Flex 4.8.0 (incubator version) and I will definitely take a look and play with it, but for our products it is not an option right now.  I heard a lot of similar stories from people and companies invested in Adobe Flash platform and now they are feeling unsure what will be a next step.
