Why I moved my desktop from Gentoo to Ubuntu Linux

December 23rd, 2008 by Martin

Well I am a big fan of Linux for many years. I used or experimented with a lot of distributions but my love are Gentoo, Debian and Ubuntu. I am not a professional system administrator, but I am using Linux for both my workstations and for server as well.  For last few years I was using Gentoo as my OS for home desktop. It was great time, I learned a lot about Linux generally, but it was also painful from time to time. I spend a lot of time fixing my workstation after some fresh portage updates. I was resolving issues, masked, blocked packages… I was merging configurations, but not any more. I decided to save my time for some more creative work than fixing OS configuration twice a month.  ;) So I am back to Ubuntu and I love it.
